Congressmen and Congresswomen Office Internships

  1. Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-1) seeks current college students or recent graduates wishing to gain Capitol Hill experience in a fast-paced office for a full-time or part-time internship for Spring 2016. We are seeking motivated, organized, and reliable individuals to assist the legislative and administrative staff with day-to-day duties. Such duties include attending briefings, answering phones, giving Capitol tours, drafting constituent correspondence letters, performing legislative research and analysis, and various other tasks.   2. Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) has an unpaid Press Internship position available for the 2016 spring session in his Washington, DC office to begin in January. Duties will include writing, compiling morning clips, updating press lists, monitoring news coverage, social media and website updates, drafting press releases, blog entries, as well as answering telephones and greeting visitors, collecting constituent information, and other general office tasks as assigned. Candidates will work directly under the Communications Director. Candidates should be professional, possess strong writing skills, and have a working understanding of the news cycle. Interns are an important part of the office and are given significant opportunities to learn and grow in a proactive, detail-oriented office. Must be highly motivated, self-starter, detail oriented, and possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and have the ability to manage multiple tasks on a deadline. The ideal candidate will be a college or graduate school student with a background or interest in journalism or communications. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is highly encouraged. Virginia ties preferred, but not necessary.   3. Congressman Austin Scott (R-GA) is seeking interns to start at the beginning of January, 2016 in Washington D.C. office.  A qualified candidate should possess strong written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated interest in public service.  Interns will be expected to fulfill the regular duties of a congressional intern, and may also receive opportunities to assist the Staff Assistant as well as the Press and Legislative Staffs.   5. Congresswoman Candice S. Miller (R-MI) seeks legislative interns for the Spring 2016 semester. Interns will work in a fast-paced congressional office, gaining valuable exposure and knowledge of the legislative process and the United States Congress. Intern responsibilities include greeting constituents, managing constituent phone calls, and assisting staff with administrative tasks. Interns will also have the opportunity to conduct legislative research, assist with constituent correspondence, and attend legislative briefings, congressional hearings, receptions, and press events. Requirements: Interns must have a good attitude, strong work ethic, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Successful interns will be able to find information with little assistance, be able to work both independently as well as part of a team environment, and possess a strong attention to detail. Applicants should have working knowledge of current events and policy topics, as well as a willingness to perform a variety of tasks and administrative functions.   6. Congressman Marlin Stutzman is seeking an unpaid intern in the Washington, D.C. office for the 2016 spring semester. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: answering phones, sorting constituent mail, attending committee hearings and briefings for staff, assisting in legislative research, and giving tours of the U.S. Capitol.  Applicants should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be self-motivated, and able to work as part of a professional team.   1. Arizona Republican is seeking interns for his Washington D.C. office.  Duties of interns include answering telephones, greeting visitors, conducting tours, sorting mail, and assisting staff members with projects as needed.  Applicants should be organized, should have strong time management and writing skills, and should be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.  Arizona ties and previous Hill experience a plus but not required.   2. The Jerusalem Fund is searching for four part time interns for The Palestine Center. Deadline to apply has been extended to December 15th. The Palestine Center internship program provides undergraduate and graduate students with an opportunity to conduct primary-source research, develop writing and organizational skills, build valuable DC contacts, gain hands-on experience, and observe the extensive political and policy-related happenings in the metropolitan DC area. As important members of our team, interns gain valuable exposure to the functions of a highly productive non-profit organization working on issues of national and international significance.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Drafting and copy-editing transcripts of Palestine Center briefings
    • Drafting timely articles for our blog, Permission to Narrate
    • Interviewing Palestine Center speakers to draft as articles for web publication
    • Researching articles for our weekly Reports & Commentary digest
    • Cataloguing and transliterating Arabic language books for our Hisham Sharabi Memorial Library
    • Editing videos using Sony Vegas software for live events
    • Assisting with the maintenance of our website on WordPress
    • Promoting Jerusalem Fund events and articles on social media
    • Assisting with event planning, organization and set-up as needed for Palestine Center events
    • Conducting research as needed for Palestine Center staff and board members

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Current undergraduate or graduate student with a major in International Affairs, Political Science, Middle East Studies or related major.
    • Availability for a minimum of 15-20 hours per week for the duration of the semester (required)
    • Excellent research and writing skills
    • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Social Media)
    • A professional and friendly demeanor; punctual, responsible.
    • Ability to work on a team and take direction
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Arabic language proficiency; at least two years at the college level (preferred)

  3. PSA is now accepting applications for a Strategic Operations Intern. The internship is funded by the Jeffrey A. McLean Foundation. The internship will start in mid-January (depending on the intern’s availability), and end late in the spring. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and the position will remain open until filled by a suitable candidate.At PSA, the Strategic Operations Intern will have the opportunity to participate in a close-knit team environment and gain first-hand exposure to and knowledge of DC political and policy establishments. In addition, interns will leave PSA with practical experience in the day-to-day running of a nonprofit organization.

  4. The Human Rights Campaign: Canvass Program and Direct Response Internship Do you want to have an internship that will keep you busy and enable you to make real, actual change? Join the Canvass Program & Direct Response team. As an intern you will receive hands-on experience in a fast-paced fundraising world. From the first day, the intern will have crucial responsibilities like assuring the timely receipt of donations, guaranteeing the integrity of HRC’s growing membership database, research projects, and other creative projects as they arise. The intern will also learn more about other parts of HRC through volunteer opportunities and group activities.
    Responsibilities:
    • Ensuring quality control and management of donor information
    • Maintaining our current tracking process to ensure we receive donations in a timely manner
    • Assisting with the maintenance of membership accounts Completing research projects for both Canvass and Direct Response
    • Working closely with HRC staff on new, creative projects to cultivate our donors and motivate our canvassers
    • Other assistance as needed throughout the department and organization, such as working at board meetings and events.
     Qualifications:

The Human Rights Campaign: Partners Program Internship This is not your typical internship.  The Partners intern will be a true member of the Partners team, working directly with staff and making sure committed donors have a strong and lasting relationship with HRC.  Join the fastest growing program at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) while learning how non-profit fundraising works and gaining real world experience!HRC’s Partners program is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and stewarding donors who give sustained monthly donations of $10 – $99 to HRC. The Partners program currently has more than 40,000 active members who are committed to the cause of LGBT equality, making this group of strategic givers responsible for more than 20% of HRC’s annual budget. As a Partners intern, you will not be responsible for soliciting money from donors. Your correspondence will be with existing member, you will never ask anyone for money.Responsibilities:
