WASHINGTON, DC – Hey, have you guys heard? Not about the bird (though it continues to be the word, haha) but about the news that could affect all animals. Not just of the avian variety. I’m talking about the People’s Climate March happening in New York City at the end of the month! Now, before I get into this, let me just say a couple quick things. First, this is not a debate about climate change or anything like that. Whether you believe in it or not is entirely up to you. I’m only bringing this up so that I can talk about a really cool volunteer opportunity you should totally take advantage of.

Second, the whole thing has a DC component mixed in, so let me get to the details. Okay? Okay. Cool.

Climate Ride NYC-DC

Interns DC - Climate Ride NYC - DCClimate Ride NYC-DC is a “grand cycling adventure that connects two of the nation’s most important cities – New York and Washington, DC – by bicycle.” It’s also the nation’s only ride dedicated to sustainability and bike advocacy. You’ll depart by ferry in Manhattan and then peddle those legs of yours to a hero’s welcome and rally at the steps of the US Capitol. It’s an amazing journey with over 200 people who are equally united by their passion for renewable energy, and bicycles!

Five Days of Fun. And Exercise. But Mostly Fun. And…Exercise.

You’ll spend five days basically cycling down the Eastern Seaboard, going through rich green countryside and historic towns along the way. This includes the historic Delaware River Valley, Pennsylvania’s Amish country, and horse country in Maryland before finally arriving at the Capitol in Washington DC. There you will be treated to a hero’s welcome, as well as evening programs and dynamic speakers. This is charity at its absolute best, guys. It’s one part exciting, two parts informative, and three parts fun. And…exercise.

What Are the Details?

WISH Climate Ride NYC-DCGlad you asked. Climate Ride takes care of all the details. All you have to do is “ride the 45-70 miles per day of carefully planned routes on back roads that meander through the countryside.” I swear that wasn’t supposed to sound like the set up of a horror movie. But that’s what the website says. The ride has followed the same route between the two cities since the first Climate Ride in 2008.  A support team will always be on hand to assist you, keep you happy, and of course, keep you safe. You know, for when you ride past Camp Crystal Lake. Kidding. It’ll all be a very memorable experience.

Climate Ride NYC-DC includes camping facilities and riders must bring their own tents and sleeping bags. (Boy, that scary movie stuff keeps coming up.) To get all the other details about this event, just head on over to the Climate Ride FAQ page!

Hope to see you on the trail for good networking and an even better cause!
