Friday, October 19, 2012, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
5th Floor Conference Room [directions]
The Washington Internship Institute, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the Harvard Institute of Politics will present the symposium, “The Millennial Generation Vote and the 2012 Election: Passing the Torch or Torching the Next Generation,” on Friday, October 19, from 10:30am to Noon at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
The Harvard Institute of Politics releases its last poll of millennial voters before the 2012 vote on October 18. The next day the symposium panelists will interpret the latest numbers measuring political and civic engagement attitudes of 18 to 29 year olds and discuss the overall political development of this critical group of voters over the course of the last four turbulent economic years and the implications for the Republican and Democratic parties in 2012 and beyond.
Distinguished panelists include John Della Volpe, Director of Polling at the Harvard Institute of Politics; Dr. Kent Hughes, Director of the Program on America and the Global Economy at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars; Dr. Mark Dalhouse, President of the Washington Internship Institute; Laura Simolaris, Director of the National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement at the Harvard Institute of Politics, and student representatives from Harvard, the Washington Internship Institute, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
The event will be held in the sixth floor auditorium at the Wilson Center. The closest metro stop is Federal Triangle (orange and blue lines). Photo identification is required for entrance to the Wilson Center.
The event is open to the media and does require an rsvp to Mark Dalhouse, President of the Washington Internship Institute at mark@wiidc.org or at (202) 833-8580. Please bring full press credentials and allow time to check in with security. Video cameras must be set up one half hour before the start of the program.
