George Bellows Exhibit; National Gallery of Art-West Building, Main Floor (begins June 10): Heralded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, George Bellows painted tenement children, boxers, families, World War I subjects, and residents of Woodstock, as well as sporting scenes, Maine seascapes, and the urban landscape of New York City.
Jazz in The Garden; National Gallery of Art-Sculpture Garden (Fridays, 5:00-8:30 PM): Continue the summer tradition of listening to jazz in the beautiful sculpture garden of the National Gallery.
In The Tower: Barnett Newman; National Gallery of Art-East Building, Tower(begins June 10): Come view the works of 20th century artist Barnett Newman, and see how his paintings exemplify shift from biomorphic imagery to simple linear forms. Be sure not to miss his famous 14 painting cycle : The Stations of the Cross: Lema Sabachthani!
African American Art Tour; American Art Museum, G Street Lobby (June 6, 5:30-6:00 PM): Tour the African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era, and Beyond exhibition with the museum’s conservators. The tour will highlight materials and techniques used by artists represented in the exhibition, and will provide insight into the different approaches the artists take to painting, collage, and sculpture.
DC Jazz Festival-Loide; American Art Museum, Kogod Courtyard (June 8, 6:00-8:00 PM): Washington, DC–based jazz vocalist, Loide, has roots in Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, France, and California. Singing in English and her native Portuguese, Loide makes music that evokes Sarah Vaughn, Cesaria Evora, and Miriam Makeba, as well as her own eclectic roots.
Steinway Series: American Century Music; American Art Museum, McEvoy Auditorium, Lower Level (June 10, 3:00-4:00 PM): The Steinway Series, which features the museum’s Steinway Concert Grand model D piano, is presented in the cool and comfortable surroundings of the museum’s state-of-the-art auditorium. Come and hear some beautiful piano and string music.

Historic landmark building with Charles Robertson, American Art’s deputy director emeritus.
