Areas of expertise: Border issues; energy, including renewable fuels, offshore drilling and Artic Refuge protection; aerial wolf hunting; global warming

Sandra is a member of the government relations team where she currently focuses on federal legislation to ensure that border security is responsive to environmental needs of our border regions. Sandra also works on Artic wildlife issues including efforts to ban aerial hunting of wolves in Alaska and protecting the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. She tracks global warming, renewable fuels, and Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) drilling legislation as well.

Sandra started her environmental career with the National Parks Conservation Association. While in law school she interned at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and was a legal fellow with Congressman Ed Markey’s office. Before joining Defenders in October 2007 Sandra was legal counsel for the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound.

Sandra Purohit was a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Environmental Policy from American University. As part of a joint-degree program, Sandra also earned a Master’s in Public Finance and Management and a law degree from the University of Maryland.
