Office of Rep, Eric Swalwell

Although internships in all offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. Interning in Washington, DC provides a unique, first-hand experience of the legislative process.  Interns get the chance to learn about all the exciting aspects of our nation’s Capital, while being able to absorb the many functions of a Congressional office. The hours are flexible to accommodate students’ hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at least three to four days a week.

They will be tasked with legislative and administrative duties.  The legislative duties range from researching legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attending various hearings and briefings on important legislative issues, and responding to constituent comments.  Administrative duties include answering phones, greeting constituents, giving tours of the Capitol, and working closely with staff members on a variety of projects.

Office of Congressman Todd Rokita

In Congressman Todd Rokita’s Washington, DC office, internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters. Although all internships are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students’ hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when the House is not in session.

In Washington, interns’ responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Office of Congresswoman Norton

The Office of Congresswoman Norton (DC-00) has openings for full-time and part-time Press and Congressional interns. Responsibilities include: researching legislative issues, attending legislative briefings and hearings, answering phone calls, processing constituent mail, giving Capitol tours, assisting with communications and media materials.

Applicants should be enthusiastic, reliable, professional, hardworking, and have strong writing and communication skills. Washington D.C. ties are required. Internships begin in late January  and run through the spring semester. These positions are unpaid.

Office of Congressman Nolan

Interns will assist with front office operations, conduct legislative research, learn from staff about the day-to-day operations of a Congressional office, and conduct tours of the Capitol building.Interns assist staff  with front office duties: sorting mail, answer telephones, data entry, and list building tasks. Assist legislative and communications staff on projects as needed. Perform research, attend briefings, and assist with constituent correspondence. Greet visitors, conduct tours of the Capitol, and other assignments as needed.

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and should have a good understanding of the legislative process. Qualified applicants are organized, dependable, willing to learn, able to work in a fast-paced environment and have a good sense of humor.

Internships are unpaid, but we are happy to work with your College or University receive academic credit for your internship.  Minnesota ties and full-time availability are preferred, but not necessary.

Office of Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman

The Office of Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) seeks full-time and part-time interns to start January in her Washington, DC office. The strongest candidates will have the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure in a team oriented environment. Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to answering the phones, attending briefings, researching legislation, writing constituent correspondence, and giving Capitol tours. Candidates from New Jersey’s 12th district are especially encouraged to apply, although all applications will be considered regardless of district or state ties.

2017 Congressional Leadership Program

This unique opportunity gives students an opportunity to witness the legislative process firsthand and become involved in a dynamic congressional office for the duration of the summer. Whether you are hoping to launch your career in public service, or you are looking to gain insight into the process of governing, this opportunity will give you a fresh perspective and lasting memories. The application process is competitive, so please read through all of the instructions below.

Congressional Leadership Program Participants are held to a high standard of professionalism and expected to be responsible, focused, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and driven. CLP Participants will have the opportunity to serve and communicate with the constituents of Colorado’s 5th district, as well as observe the legislative process and work side by side with full-time congressional staffers. The unique perspectives and insights gained through the CLP program are invaluable.

Applicants must have completed at least one full year of college-level courses and be available to work full-time. We accept applications from all academic backgrounds. Strong writing skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and conservative values are a must. We appreciate interns with a general knowledge of politics and government. Applicants must have ties to Colorado’s fifth district in order to be considered for the Congressional Leadership Program. Although internships are unpaid positions, interns are treated as full participants in the Congressional office.

The application deadline for the Congressional Leadership Program is April 30th, 2017.

Congressman Patrick Meehan

The Washington DC office of Congressman Patrick Meehan (R-PA) is currently accepting applications for Spring 2017. Intern responsibilities include researching legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attending hearings and briefings, answering phones, and day to day office duties. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. The hours are flexible, but generally run 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM when Congress is in session, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM when not in session.

This internship is unpaid. The deadline to apply is Friday, December 16, 2016. Ties to Pennsylvania are preferred, but not required.

Congressman Gregory W. Meeks

Congressman Gregory W. Meeks is accepting applications for legislative internship positions available in his Washington D.C. office for the upcoming 2017 Spring term.

This unpaid internship will provide an invaluable hands-on experience in a Congressional office and a greater understanding of the legislative process. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, attending Congressional briefings on behalf of staff, conducting research, responding to constituent inquiries, and processing tour and flag requests.Interns will also have the opportunity to draft memos, write letters, and become a team member in a fast-paced and collegial office.

Qualified applicants will possess a professional and courteous demeanor, excellent communication skills, the ability to multi-task, acute attention to detail, and interest in the legislative process. This is an excellent opportunity for law students seeking Capitol Hill experience. Ties to New York’s Fifth Congressional District are preferred, but not required.

Congressman K. Michael Conaway (TX-11)

Candidates should be collegial, professional, quick learners, and phenomenal team players. Strong oral and written communication skills and close attention to detail are imperative. Duties include assisting staff with legislative, administrative, and press related projects, writing memos and talking points, attending hearings and meetings, answering constituent phone calls, leading tours of the US Capitol, assisting with scheduling, sorting and distributing mail, and managing tour and flag requests. Interns are considered an integral part of the team and are given the opportunity to learn and grow through working with us both to achieve the goals of the office and to pursue and develop their areas of interest.

Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12)

Congressman Gus Bilirakis seeks applicants for full and part-time internships in his Washington, D.C. office for the spring 2017 semester.

Washington D.C. interns are responsible for assisting staff with day-to-day functions within the D.C. office, including but not limited to constituent correspondence and legislative research. They may also assist constituents in their visits to Washington, D.C., providing tours of the U.S. Capitol.

The ideal candidate will be a college student or recent graduate who is motivated, possesses strong writing and organizational skills and is willing to jump in wherever needed with a positive attitude.  A congressional internship provides unparalleled value and insight into the workings of a Capitol Hill office and the legislative process, as well as networking opportunities and exposure to important issues before Congress.

While the internship is unpaid, college credit is available. Both part-time and full-time applicants will be considered. Florida ties preferred, but not required.

Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04)

Congressman Bruce Westerman is currently accepting applications for his Spring and Summer 2016 internship program in his Washington, D.C. and Hot Springs offices. He is seeking highly qualified candidates who are motivated, detail-oriented, and personable. The ideal candidates will have excellent research and writing abilities, be able to multi-task and interact well with constituents.

Interns will have the opportunity to experience working on Capitol Hill, learn about the legislative process, and attend briefings of interest. In the DC office, responsibilities will include answering the phone, giving tours of the Capitol, assisting with constituent correspondence, and supporting the legislative and communication staff on various projects.

Although internships are unpaid, the office is happy to fill out any necessary forms for students to receive credit at their respective college or university. Arkansas ties are preferred, but not required.

Representative Dennis A. Ross (R-FL-15)

Representative Dennis A. Ross (R-FL-15) has openings for college students to participate in unpaid internships in his Washington, D.C., office. Successful candidates must have excellent organizational, personal, writing and communication skills. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol, filling flag requests, answering telephones, sorting mail, and other general office duties.

PSA Online Management Intern

PSA is now accepting applications for a Management Intern. The internship will start in January and end in May 2017. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and we will consider applications immediately upon receiving them – apply early! Applicants enrolled in classes in the Washington, D.C. area are welcome to apply, and PSA is happy to work with candidates to develop a feasible work schedule.

The Management Intern will have the opportunity to participate in a close-knit team environment and gain first-hand exposure to and knowledge of DC political and policy establishments. In addition, interns will leave PSA with practical experience in the day-to-day running of a nonprofit organization.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Develop proposals for PSA fundraising activities in cooperation with PSA staff;
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and post-event evaluation of those activities;
  • Participate in ad hoc programmatic and communications tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious undergraduate or graduate student to work closely with PSA’s leadership to make a substantive difference at a small non-profit organization with significant access and stature in Washington policy circles.

The ideal candidate will be a bright, highly-motivated individual with a strong academic background, and a demonstrated passion for nonprofit management and/or fundraising and development. Facility with U.S. foreign policy and national security issues, and a keen interest in Capitol Hill are a must. In addition, candidates should have the following background and qualities:

  • A creative, entrepreneurial mindset with plenty of hustle and moxie;

PSA Online Public Affairs Intern

PSA is now accepting applications for a Public Affairs Intern. The internship will start in early January and end late in May. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and we will consider applications immediately upon receiving them – apply early! The internship will be unpaid but will have flexible hours.

At PSA, the Public Affairs Intern will have the opportunity to participate in a close-knit team environment and gain first-hand exposure to and knowledge of DC political and policy establishments. In addition, interns will leave PSA with practical experience in the programmatic aspects of running a nonprofit organization.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Manage PSA social media platforms, to include Twitter and Facebook;
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities for PSA to leverage social media;
  • Implement the “Five Minute Forum” interview series with members of PSA’s Advisory Board;
  • Help to craft and implement communications strategy for PSA policy work and Advisory Board activities;
  • Contribute to maintenance of PSA’s website;
  • Assist with programmatic tasks as needed.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with social media, Google Analytics, HTML, and website design and maintenance;

  • Demonstrated written and oral communications skills;

PSA Online Research Internship

At PSA, the Research Intern will have the opportunity to participate in a close-knit team environment and gain first-hand exposure to and knowledge of DC political and policy establishments. In addition, interns will leave PSA with practical experience in the programmatic aspects of running a nonprofit organization.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Research key foreign policy and national security challenges to inform future bipartisan policy statements on these issues;
  • Attend and report on relevant events, hearings, and policy developments;
  • Help identify and research other timely issues and policy figures for Capitol Hill educational briefings;
  • Research legislation, Committee proceedings, and positions of key foreign policy/national security leaders in Congress;
  • Keep abreast of the foreign affairs and national security landscape;
  • Assist PSA leadership in developing new initiatives in line with the PSA mission;
  • Assist in implementation of other PSA programs and projects.

Hamilton Place Strategies Public Affairs Intern

Hamilton Place Strategies is a policy and public affairs consulting firm based in Washington, DC, providing analysis, communications, and advocacy solutions at the intersection of government, business, and media. HPS is seeking full-time paid interns to support the operations of the firm, including working on teams to support a number of clients in our portfolio. Interns at HPS have the opportunity to provide significant support to the work that we do and learn what it’s like to work in a fun, fast-paced, and challenging environment. The successful candidate will have strong leadership ability, some related internship experience, and be a curious, proactive, high-achieving student interested in policy and public affairs.Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Draft press releases, op-eds, blog posts, and memos

N Street Village Special Events Intern

N Street Village empowers homeless and low-income women to claim their highest quality of life by offering a broad spectrum of services and advocacy in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. The Village also provides affordable rental housing for low and moderate-income individuals and families.

Under the supervision of the Events Manager, the Special Events Intern will gain invaluable experience in coordinating and assistant managing events. The primary focus of this internship will be the 2016 Annual N Street Village Gala, the organization’s largest fundraiser each year. The Special Events Intern will assist in all aspects of planning for the Gala from concept, communications and creative, to donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The position is unpaid, but provides extensive opportunity for portfolio building and personal references. At the end of this internship, the Special Events Intern will have working knowledge of key event skills, including developing production timelines, planning processes, budgeting, and community outreach which they will be able to translate into future career opportunities.

Expectations/Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Provide integral support to the Events Manager in coordinating/planning the full event lifecycle for the N Street Village Annual Gala, including sponsorship solicitation, communications, graphics, venue/vendors, web platforms, social media, online auctions, and all day-of logistics
  • Project manage and spearhead the Gala print program, including acquiring content, copy editing, coordinating with the graphic designer, and printing/designing supplemental materials
  • Assist in the Gala online auction, including but not limited to soliciting sponsors, attaining donations, organizing packages, and communicating with bidders
  • Coordinate all post-event activity, solidifying winning auction packages, stewarding new donors, posting to social media and drafting emails
  • Promote organization through on and off-site presentations
  • Assist Executive Director and Chief Development Officer with administrative work
  • Other tasks as designated by supervisor

Qualifications:

Ideally, the Special Events Intern will work 15-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Special Events Intern must be available for extended hours the week of March 13th and available all day March 14th. Candidate should be able to work weekends and weekday evenings when necessary.
