El-Hibri Foundation (EHF)
Internship Opportunities

 ABOUT EHF

EHF is a 501(c)(3) private charitable foundation established in 2001.  We envision a world in which respect for human dignity, equality and appreciation of diversity are cultural norms, and the non-violent resolution of conflict is widely practiced.  We seek to achieve this mission by promoting education focused on peacebuilding and conflict transformation and through interfaith dialogue and action designed to increase respect for diversity.

The Foundation:

  • Funds grants that incubate or develop new ideas;
  • Develops internal programs that address unmet needs; and
  • Utilizes its Washington, DC headquarters as a venue for intellectual exchange.

While most of its activity is focused on the United States, some of its grants benefit disadvantaged youth in Lebanon and promote better understanding of the rights of Muslim women worldwide.

Prospective interns are asked to become familiar with the purpose, goals, procedures and work of the El-Hibri Foundation (EHF).  Visit www.elhibrifoundation.org for more information about the organization and its programs.

INTERNSHIPS

The Foundation offers internship opportunities with stipends throughout the year.  Interns will select and be actively engaged in a range of educational, programmatic and administrative learning opportunities, such as:

  • Improving communication about the Foundation’s work through videography, photography and media activities;
  • Assisting with the organization of programs and events relating to the Foundation’s Peace Education Program and Mosaic Initiative, including our annual Peace Education Prize;
  • Assisting with the management of grant applications and funded grants.

Intern duties may include research and fact-checking, program and event management, database and website development, social media and communications outreach, and administrative tasks.

 QUALIFICATIONS

Undergraduate/graduate students or post-graduate professionals may apply.  Incumbents must possess an interest in nonprofit administration, as well as demonstrate good writing and communication skills, interest in nonprofit program development, and knowledge of social media and computer applications, such as Windows 7 and MS Office Suite.  Interns must be in good academic standing with their educational institution, as applicable. Applicants must be self-motivated, able to work independently or in groups, well organized, flexible and able to prioritize tasks to complete projects in a timely fashion.  The ability to speak and write in English is mandatory, and knowledge of other languages is an advantage.

 HOURS and TERMS

Interns will be invited to work on a flexible schedule for an average of 15-32 hours per week at our Metro-friendly location off of Dupont Circle.  EHF strives to maintain a collegial environment in the office and at all sponsored events; likewise, interns are expected to treat all colleagues, partners, and visitors with courtesy and respect and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.  The form of dress is business casual.

 COMPENSATION:

Internships are designed to afford valuable educational and work experience.  Upon successful completion of an internship, the Foundation offers a small stipend to half-time or full-time interns.  EHF also will help interns apply to their colleges or universities for course credit, upon advance agreement.  Housing is not provided and students are encouraged to make their own housing arrangements.

This is an internship program, not employment.  Therefore, EHF follows the guidelines of the Field Operations Handbook (Ch. 10, Sec. B 11) of the US Department of Labor regarding “trainees and student-trainees” and provides an educational work experience.
