Now that you’ve eaten the last of the Halloween candy, it’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving. If you can’t make it home for one of the biggest holidays of the year why not have a little Friendsgiving get together with your new intern friends?
Spending the day with friends is a perfect way to beat any pangs of homesickness. They may be feeling a little lost too. Even if you can get home, why not have a little pre-Thanksgiving celebration with your home town friends? Any excuse for pie right?
Whatever your reason for throwing a Friendsgiving bash, here are 6 rules for throwing the best Friendsgiving ever.
1. It’s Potluck
The number 1 rule of Friendsgiving is to make it a potluck. You will have enough on your plate (literally!) hosting and cooking the turkey. Besides, your guests will have fun sharing the workload and get a chance to be creative.
According to BuzzFeed, if you’re the host, it’s your job to cook the turkey and make the gravy. Stuffing (the more types the better!) is also up to the host. Everything else is up to your guests. As the host, you need to coordinate so everyone brings something different. Who wants 3 dishes of brussel sprouts? To complement the turkey, you’ll need cranberry sauce, potatoes (both sweet and mashed), corn bread, vegetables, and let’s not forget the pie.
It can be apple pie, pumpkin pie, or both! It really doesn’t matter, just as long as there’s pie! Have you ever heard anyone complain about too much dessert?
2. Bring Your Own Beer
Or wine! We’re all interns here and what intern can afford to buy beer for other people? If you want to have a drink at Friendsgiving, have guests bring their own and a little extra too. Better to be safe than sorry.
Ice is a must, but this one is on the host!
3. The Host Should Decorate
This doesn’t have to be anything major, just a few simple (orange) props to get in the festive spirit. You don’t have to break the bank either, as you can reuse use any pumpkins you forgot to carve for Halloween. Cut off the top, scrape it out and decorate by putting some fall flowers in them. Make 
sure you put them in a jar of water or those spongy things florists use. Wilting flowers at the dinner table is not a good look.
Candles are always a nice touch to give a dorm room soft lighting. If you’re in need some décor inspiration, get on Pinterest. It’s a gold mine of ideas.
Use these designs for place cards, on candles or in multiples to hang from your bunk. Just print them out and done!
4. Share the Clean Up & Do It As You Go!
It’s not cool to leave the washing up for the host to deal with after everyone has gone on their merry way. Help your host out by doing your fair share of the clean up. To make sure you don’t get lost in a mountain of dishes, do the wash up after every course! This will make life so much easier.
5. Don’t Forget The Tunes
It’s not a get-together with friends without good music! Pick your friend with the best (or at least half decent) taste in music. Have them create a Friendsgiving playlist for your soiree.
6. Have Fun!
Don’t forget to have fun, especially if you’re the host! Sometimes planning and preparing for a big meal can be stressful, but just remember it is supposed to be fun. So relax, enjoy the company of your friends and be thankful for all the great things you have in your life.
