Twitter: #WISHBowlBash Recap: Q & A about DC!
December 20, 2019

Earlier this month, Washington Intern Student Housing held a live Q&A session on Twitter — #WISHBowlBash. During that, our WISH interns Cymonne and Lauren, answered all questions that were tweeted to @WISHHousing.

Just like an in-person press conference, these tweets served as a way for our residents to get answers to their questions directly. Where is the best place to eat? Where can my friends and I go listen to music live? What is the number one thing I should do in DC?

The twitter Q&A was held during Super Bowl Sunday February 7th, 2016 from 5pm – 8pm. So we also received tweets such as, what do you think Beyoncé will wear tonight? Who do you think will win?

Many WISH residents participated and three lucky residents were randomly chosen as winners of a metro card! One lucky resident received the grand $100 visa gift card prize.

Did you miss the first ever live twitter Q&A? Don’t worry. We have all the questions and our answers below! Be sure to follow us on twitter, @WISHHousing, so you don’t miss the next one. Who knows, maybe this time you will be the lucky one to walk away with a prize.

#WISHBowlBash Q&A

The Q&A began with a tweet from us asking about the outcome of the Super Bowl. Many of our residents were rooting for the Panthers and Cam Newton, but the Denver Broncos took home the trophy as the actual winners.#WISHBowlBash Recap

After that initial tweet the questions starting pouring in.

First about the Super Bowl…

Then we got down to the nitty and gritty; questions about life in DC.

There were many questions on how to succeed in DC professionally through internship and networking…

#WISHBowlBash Recap

A: In order to stand out and network, we truly recommend doing what is more than expected. Stay late, arrive early, and do not be afraid to introduce yourself to everyone in your internship. You never know who knows who in DC. Set up a lunch, send out an email, and greet everyone in the morning.

Also check out meetup.com, LinkedIn, and your Alumni network for professional based groups and say yes to everything you are invited to.

We then had questions about entertainment in DC…

….If you are under 21

A: There are great local movie theatres to check out. Sometimes WISH is even invited to free movie screenings! Check your email when those opportunities become available.

The Washington Post has a great article that lists a ton of places where people under 21 can hang!  Where to Go If You’re Under 21

Check here for a list of clubs for those 18 and older.  Under 21 Clubs – Washington DC Nightlife for All Ages

…If you want to sightsee

IMG_4322A: Also check out Colonial Georgetown, the National Zoo, Arlington Cemetery, and the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. Here is the link for going up the Washington Monument

…If you want to listen to live music

Q: Where’s the best place for live music in the District @WISHHousing #WishBowlBash
A: There are many places in DC that offer live music! You just have to make sure the night you go, there will be a band. Clink this link for the Top 10 Live Music Clubs in Washington, DC

…If you want to tour the Whitehouse and who knows, see the President?

Q: I think it would be great to do a WH visit. Do you work that out for interns? #WISHBowlBash
A: White House takes a while to set up, but there is information on their website under the tours section. We recommend doing the capital tour. Library of Congress tours are great, too, as well as the monuments and museums, which all have free guided tours.

…If you like great and affordable food

A: Also try Medeterra. It has great happy hour specials. Also try Addis Ethiopian on H Street. We’ve also complied a list here.

Other notable questions were…

Q: Other than Hillary Clinton @ Folger, has any other notable politicians ever lived in WISH properties? #Wishbowlbash
A: Justice Samuel Alito, Rep. Jim Costa, Rep Mike Michaud

Q: How does WISH decide who will be roommates?
A: We look at dates of move in, age, where you will be interning, where you are from, your university, etc.

We asked interns what are some events that you would like us to plan for the upcoming semester.

Other answers we received were sporting events, volunteer events and live music events. We have volunteered at the Food Bank before as well as attended a Washington Nationals Baseball game. We are taking in all of your suggestions into consideration as we plan for future events.

During our Q&A sessions, other interns began to tweet other residents in response to their questions.

This started side dialogues and conversations that continued even after our #WISHBowlBash was completed.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in #WISHBowlBash it was great to speak directly to our residents! Check back on our twitter for our next Q&A. We will certainly be back.
