If a too-tight man bun and practical shoes don’t sound quite like your cup of tea, rejoice! Virtual internships are on the rise, and it’s easy to see why. Technology is changing the way internships work.
Perhaps the most obvious would be the “virtual internship”, (also known as the internship you can do in your pajamas).
Thanks to things like video chat and geolocation apps that automatically clock you in for a shift, you can now travel the world without losing that trusty responsible veneer. (We hear that Washington, D.C. is an absolute delight, btw.)
If you decide to take on a virtual internship, you must have great time management skills and be self motivated.
You may even have more opportunities as companies can reach out to more people and benefit by saving office space. You can stay close to the fam if you’d like, or you can simply refuse to leave your cozy hermit shell. In 2017, you design your own destiny, friends. Oh!
And speaking of virtual…reality
Virtual Reality offers an experience that our grandparents have only read about in Sci Fi books, which is where many of our modern technologies were dreamed up in the first place. The same VR that your little brother uses to play Wayward Sky or Chronos are being used to train the future lifesavers of America.
Using a virtual reality device, medical interns can be trained to use robotic surgical methods. Better yet, virtual and augmented reality can be used to develop new life-saving medical techniques, like what is going on right now over at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The possibilities are limited only by our own imaginations.
If you want one of these high-power, VR-toting, career-making internships, though, come ready to compete.
They’re becoming more and more competitive all the time. After all, there are now businesses that use chatbots to screen potential candidates for in-demand internships before you ever even get to speak to a real person inside the company.
It seems they’re all looking for the next whiz kid – the virtual solitaire creator of Generation Z, if you will.
