Washington DC | SOTU Watch Party Hotspots

So you guys are interns in D.C. and tonight is one of the biggest nights here in the good old capital! The Prez is making his annual speech about how good (or bad?) America is going and of course the bars want in on the action. So to mark the occasion bars all over D.C. throw ‘watch parties’.

What’s a watch party I hear you ask? Well you know those bars that were showing the playoffs on their flatscreen TVs on Sunday? Replace the football with the Prez making his State of the Union (SOTU) address and that’s a watch party. It’s totally D.C. and you’d be crazy to stay at home.

Don’t know where to go or what to do? I’ve got you covered. Here’s some of the hottest spots in town…

Busboys and Poets SOTU Watch PartyBusboys and Poets

Busboys and Poets like to think of  themselves as your go to spot for all things politics. They have 5 locations and all five will have watch parties between at 8 and 10pm. Some of the locations even have special events.

This D.C. hotspot has 7 TVs that rarely show anything else other than sport. Tonight is an exception though and all 7 TVs will be showing the SOTU. The party gets underway at 8pm with games, food (bullfrog bagels to be exact) and of course lots of drinks.

This place knows how to do watch parties. They have been hosting SOTU parties for 10 years and pride themselves on being the original SOTU party. They sure know how to have fun with their watch parties too. Pick a word, anyway word, and if The Prez says it you get a free Jello shot. Be smart here guys and pick your word wisely.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m making it my duty to make it to all of these places tonight. If you see me come have a drink, or a jello shot depending on the state of our union.
