Special Lecture Event and Internship Announcement<\/span><\/p>\n

You are invited to attend the\u00a0Free Markets, Individual Liberty & Civil Society<\/a>\u00a0lecture,\u00a0taking place next Wednesday, November 18 at 3:30pm.<\/p>\n

The speaker will be Fred Barnes, cofounder and executive editor of The Weekly Standard.\u00a0 He was also senior editor and White House correspondent for the New Republic from 1985-1995. Mr. Barnes has appeared as a guest speaker on the Fox News Channel, Nightline, Meet the Press, Face the Nation and the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This event will be held in the Capitol Visitors Center in room 201-00 (East Capitol St NE & First St SE, Washington, DC 20004) on Capitol Hill. Mr. Barnes will be introduced by Senator Ben Sasse and refreshments will be served after the lecture.<\/p>\n

Do you have plans yet for this spring? Have you thought about spending 15 weeks in Washington, DC completing an internship and earning 12 credits from George Mason University?<\/p>\n

The extended application deadline for the spring 2016 Capital Semester in Washington, DC is November 18.<\/strong> There is still plenty of time to apply \u2013 there are many exciting internship opportunities available and generous scholarship funding to be awarded.<\/p>\n

INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE<\/strong>
\nSpend your semester gaining real-world experience that will help set you apart when it comes time to find your first job after graduation. Here are some examples of intern projects that you could work on next semester:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Develop a strategic marketing plan for your client who is lobbying for a bill on Capitol Hill.
\n\u2022 Attend a Congressional briefing and write a summary for your manager.

\n\u2022 Research data for a report on bio-terrorism threats and other national security concerns.
\n\u2022 Plan and develop a social media campaign for crime prevention awareness.
\n\u2022 Attend a strategy meeting with coalition groups advocating for clean energy policies.
\n\u2022 Make media pitch calls on behalf of a client whose is promoting her latest book.
\n\u2022 Work on cultural fair for newly arrived immigrants from Africa.
\n\u2022 Serve as call screener for a radio talk show.
\n\u2022 Help prepare a briefing book for your boss who will be testifying in an important Congressional hearing.
\n\u2022 Brain storm ideas for a Congressional candidate\u2019s latest television commercial.
\n\u2022 Coordinate logistics for a conference with scholars from prestigious think tanks.<\/p>\n

In addition to an internship and classes, our program provides housing in furnished apartments in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of DC, planned social activities, professional development seminars, and numerous opportunities for networking.<\/p>\n
