\nBe on hand for the opening of In the Light of the Past: Twenty-Five Years of Photography at the National Gallery of Art. Roughly 175 exquisite images, dating from the late 1800s to the end of the 20th century, will be on display in this illuminating photography exhibit. Expect to see everything from early 1900s pictorialism and modernist images from the 1920s and \u201830s to conceptual art influenced by the cultural changes of the 1960s and \u201870s.

\nInspired by Nelson Johnson\u2019s New York Times best-selling book, HBO re-created the realism and texture of Prohibition-era Atlantic City in the hit series Boardwalk Empire. With video clips and behind-the-scenes stories, Terence Winter leads a discussion of the show\u2019s creation. Panelists include Gretchen Mol, the actress who played Gillian Darmody; Edward McGinty, Jr., the actor who portrayed Ward Boss Boyd and research adviser for the show; Lesley Robson-Foster, visual effects supervisor; Nelson Johnson, author of Boardwalk Empire; and others. A book signing will follow the program. Presented in partnership with HBO.

\nOne of DC\u2019s favorite summer traditions, Jazz in the Garden acts as a musical takeover of the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. Every Friday evening through August, local jazz musicians take to the stage to entertain summertime revelers with their individual takes on one of America\u2019s oldest art forms. Admission is free, and you can grab the much-praised sangria (and other drinks and snacks) from the Pavilion Caf\u00e9.

\nThe National Memorial Day Parade will commence at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets, NW. It will proceed west down Constitution, past the White House, ending at 17th Street. Participants will pass by the nation\u2019s monuments, museums, and hundreds of thousands of spectators waving their flags and cheering for our country\u2019s heroes \u2013 the men and women who wear the uniform of our armed forces. This evening, the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol plays host to the National Memorial Day Concert, featuring a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra.
