I will vote when I&#8217;m dead (by putting a &#8220;who I wish to vote for&#8221; clause in my will).<\/p>\n<p>Back when I was growing up,\u00a0my mother and my father would make sure I knew just how important it was that I show up to the polls. \u00a0It should also be noted that my parents belong to opposing political parties, so I got usually got this rousing speech twice in one day, usually accompanied by separate piles of brochures on my desk and vintage toy chest. \u00a0Yes, every other November, my house became a bit of a battleground. \u00a0You must understand, my parents fell in love over a mutual love of livestock, not aligned politics.<\/p>\n<p>So to honor my parents&#8217; seasonally dysfunctional marriage, I bring you!<\/p>\n<h2>November 4th, 2014: Midterm Battleground Districts<\/h2>\n<p>Here are the 5 most-talked about races of the midterms:<\/p>\n<h2>Florida&#8217;s 18th<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Floridas_18th.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2969\" src=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Floridas_18th.jpg\" alt=\"Florida's-18th-Congressional-District\" width=\"269\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Incumbent Patrick Murphy (D) will face Carl Domino in a battleground race. \u00a0Murphy, a freshman congressman, was ranked by the Washington Post as one of the Top Ten Most Vulnerable Democrats upon election. \u00a0His opponent in 2012 was a polarizing figure, and Murphy won with a margin of barely 2,000 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s 18th includes St. Lucie and Martin Counties, along with part of Palm Beach county.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RESULTS: Murphy wins by a relatively comfortable margin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Illinois&#8217; 12th<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/illinois-12th-district.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2970\" src=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/illinois-12th-district.png\" alt=\"illinois 12th district\" width=\"201\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Illinois&#8217; 12th district has been redistricted and now has almost an equal number of registered Republicans and Democrats. \u00a0The incumbent, Bill Enyart (D), another freshman congressman, will face Mike Bost (R). \u00a0Enyart has faced a lot of gridlock while in office, and Bost has been a state-elected official for a while. \u00a0Their last debate got slightly heated, so this is certainly a district to watch.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois&#8217; 12th includes the counties of Jefferson, Perry, Franklin, Williamson, Union, Alexander, Pulaski, Jackson, Randolph, Monroe, St. Claire and part of Madison County.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RESULTS: Bost wins the district, becoming the first Republican to serve it in over 70 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Minnesota&#8217;s 8th<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/MN_8th_District_Map.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2971\" src=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/MN_8th_District_Map.png\" alt=\"Minnesota 8th District\" width=\"240\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another victim (errrm maybe loaded word choice there) of redistricting is Minnesota&#8217;s 8th. \u00a0Rick Nolan (D) was elected comfortably in 2012, but the redistricting puts the race at a tossup. \u00a0Stewart Mills (R) is an outspoken advocate of gun rights, and his long hair as jokingly earned him the nickname &#8220;The Brad Pitt of the Republican Party&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s 8th district contains the counties of\u00a0Koochiching, Itasca, Hubbard, St. Louis, Cook, Lake, Carlton, Pine, Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Kanabec, Benton, Pine and Chisago counties.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RESULTS: Nolan defeats Mills by roughly 5,000 votes. \u00a0Again, an incredibly slim margin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>California&#8217;s 7th<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Californias_7th.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2968\" src=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Californias_7th.jpg\" alt=\"California's_7th_District\" width=\"106\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With over $20 million spent, this election is the most expensive House race of the 2014 cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman incumbent Ami Bera (D) faces Doug Ose (R). \u00a0Ose, a former congressman of California&#8217;s 3rd district, has bombarded his opponent with attack ads. \u00a0The DCCC has identified Bera as a vulnerable candidate. \u00a0Their biggest point of contention? \u00a0The Affordable Health Care Act, which Ose firmly opposes and Bera plans to improve while in office.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s 7th contains most of Sacramento county.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RESULTS: Ose defeats Bera by an extremely thin margin. 3,100 votes separated the two.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>New York&#8217;s 18th<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/NY_District_18_Map.png><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2967\" src=\"https:\/\/internsdc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/NY_District_18_Map.png\" alt=\"NY_District_18_Map\" width=\"307\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In New York&#8217;s 18th Congressional District, incumbent Sean Maloney (D) will face off against his 2012 opponent, Nan Hayworth (R). \u00a0Hayworth was defeated in earlier years when New York&#8217;s 18th was redistricted, and the numbers of registered Democrats to Republicans remains close.<\/p>\n<p>New York&#8217;s 18th district contains\u00a0Orange and Putnam counties and as well as parts of Westchester.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">RESULTS: Incumbent Maloney secures an extremely narrow victory with an advantage of only 3,000 votes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re reading this now, the results are clear. \u00a0Republicans will have both House and Senate majority for the next two years. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see how this affects Washington.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keep your eyes on the polls today folks. \u00a0It&#8217;s November 4th &#8212;\u00a0Election Day!
