\"halloweenHalloween! <\/em>You might be surprised to know it\u2019s my favorite holiday.<\/p>\n

Growing up, I never had a traditional Halloween. Being raised on a farm means that going \u201cdoor to door\u201d to trick or treat means literally walking half an hour to go get a handful of Almond Joy. My sister Georgia and I would instead go trick-or-treating in our house, knocking on every door of every room. Our parents would dress up as different \u201cneighbors\u201d and pretend not to know us as they handed us snacks.\u00a0 Their commitment was astounding: \u00a0each house had distinctly different candy (and distinctly different marriage dynamics!\u00a0 I\u2019ll never forget the \u201cHopplepots\u201d, recurring characters in our Halloween tradition whom I\u2019m pretty sure were supposed to secret serial killers. (My parents didn\u2019t get out a lot.)<\/p>\n

But by the time I got to college, Halloween meant something different. Halloween meant hitting the town, throwing a party, and dressing up as my\u00a0current favorite Pulitzer Prize winner. All of my fondest memories of college come from Halloween bashes, even if I was very disappointed I was never recognized as Maya Angelou.<\/p>\n

In order to spread the scary excitement, I asked my fellow WISHington Post authors to share what they\u2019re doing this Halloween!<\/p>\n

Billy J. Clanton<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"DonaldCostume<\/strong>: Donald Trump<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>Nightmare on M Street Bar Crawl<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a costume bar crawl of DC\u2019s hottest establishments. Obviously 21+. \u00a0A Halloween where I don’t make some new connections is a Halloween wasted. This is the perfect chance to meet fellow DC people who are into costumed mayhem.<\/p>\n

\"SpockEdison LaFont<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: Spock <\/strong>(I have worn this costume many years in a row, but as it continues to elicit a reaction, and as new media continues to bring Trek <\/em>more aggressively into the public eye, I see no reason to retire it as of this year.)<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>I, and my fellow members of the Enterprise, will be attending Ha!Lloween, a Halloween themed comedy show.\u00a0 Perhaps I shall get to perform some bits of my own, should time allow.<\/p>\n

\"rainbowChelsea Evara<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony<\/em><\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>I actually get scared super easy, so no ghosts or vampires or dead Presidents for me! I go to Pumpkin patches out in the country for harvest festivals and petting zoos. \u00a0They\u2019re so fun and adorable!<\/p>\n

\"BillWoody Wilson<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>Bill from Bill and Ted\u2019s Excellent Adventure<\/em><\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>Throw a killer party at my friend Chester\u2019s. I know how to make this cool punch with a Jell-O eyeball in it and we’re gonna have our own costume contest. We have a lot of categories: \u201cmost original, coolest pop-culture reference, best use of hat or headgear, most gnarly, honorable mention for attention to fabric choice, and most excellent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"theTruman J. Woznack<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>The Flash \u2013 specifically the Flash from the new 52 run of \u201cJustice League\u201d – the Jim Lee version. Most of my references are from Issues 3-9.<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>I might go to the Fantom Comics Store\u2019s Halloween party.\u00a0 Or I might stay home and help my mom hand out candy. I dunno, Mom\u2019s wrists get tired a lot.<\/p>\n

\"Marilyn-Costume-Happy-Birthday-Mr-President\"Jackie Kay<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>Marilyn Monroe<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>The Mansion O Halloween party is the pinnacle of elegance.\u00a0 If you love getting dressed up and exploring a Victorian Mansion, I highly recommend it. \u00a0If you don\u2019t\u2026well\u2026I\u00a0bet Woody would invite you to his\u00a0soiree<\/em>. (ugh.)<\/p>\n

\"NativeHilary Kawahara<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>A Culturally Insensitive Loser Frat Guy Dressed Up as a Native American (it\u2019s a meta costume \u2013 it\u2019s satire.)<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>Synthetic Theater\u2019s Vampire Ball. They\u2019re doing The Island of Dr. Moreau. Their DJ is from Georgia (the country not the state, duh).\u00a0 Yeah, it\u2019s really cool, but I kinda don\u2019t want a LOT of people to be there cause then it\u2019ll probably kill the vibe, y\u2019know?<\/p>\n

\"CatEleanor Rose<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>A Cat Superhero (to raise awareness for cat adoption.)<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>DC has a large number of pet costume contests.\u00a0 My four cats are dressed up as the characters from Girls <\/em>this year, so we\u2019re sure to take home something for originality.<\/p>\n

\"TJeron Andrews<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>Swiss Cheese (I cut holes in my yellow shirt!)<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>I make homemade Halloween treats for my friend\u2019s house party every year!\u00a0 Pinterest has got some amazing Halloween pastry recipes that you have GOT to check out.<\/p>\n

\"HowEd Woodward<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>I prefer to remain anonymous. (But it\u2019ll have a cool cape.)<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>I don\u2019t want anyone knowing my wherabouts, I turned off GPS on my phone for this very reason.<\/p>\n

\"HomeGeorgia Warrington<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Costume: <\/strong>Oh sweetie, I don\u2019t do costumes anymore.<\/p>\n

Plans: <\/strong>Probably stay inside and give out candy to trick or treaters in our building. My fianc\u00e9 makes amazing homemade nougat!<\/p>\n
