Roughly one month ago, when I began this post for The Post<\/em>, it was my vision to collect savory sound bites from five of the most successful people in the United States.\u00a0 My deep, probing question?<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you could travel back in time, what piece of advice would you give your younger self?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But after a month of digging, I realized:<\/p>\n

A.) Whatever advice they could come up with, I could come up with ten times better<\/p>\n

B.) Executive assistants can be incredibly rude to ambitious internet journalists.<\/p>\n

C.) Pretending to be a reporter for the Wall Street Journal <\/em>isn\u2019t as easy as House of Cards <\/em>would lead one to believe.<\/p>\n

To that end, I artfully pivoted, and now present:<\/p>\n

8 Pieces of Advice You\u2019re Probably Going to Give Your Younger Self (Imagineered by Billy J. Clanton)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be fearless!<\/h3>\n

If there\u2019s one thing amazingly successful executives have in common, it\u2019s fearlessness<\/em>.\u00a0 If you think you have a great idea right now, don\u2019t wait, don\u2019t second guess yourself. Pursue it sooner rather than later!<\/p>\n

2.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work overtime!<\/h3>\n

These are foundation years, people.\u00a0 Making more money, learning more on the job, and making more professional contacts are gonna set you up for success down the road.<\/p>\n

3.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Take time to discover yourself!<\/h3>\n

Not by meditating or any of that useless woo-woo stuff \u2013 by working of course!<\/p>\n

Get a lot of jobs.\u00a0 Jobs you love. Jobs you hate.\u00a0 Jobs you only had for a week because you miscalculated the learning curve on a career in Electrical Engineering.\u00a0 Experience is what matters people!<\/p>\n

4.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Go out and network!<\/h3>\n

Understandably, when you\u2019re a twenty-something year old, you\u2019re gripped by confusion and anxiety, but in ten years when, obviously,\u00a0 said anxiety will disappear entirely, won\u2019t you kick yourself for not getting out there more aggressively? Who cares if you\u2019re constantly operating with a small amount of self-hatred and unshakeable doubts about your worth as a human being?! Say \u201chi\u201d to that stranger!<\/p>\n

5.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Say <insert brilliant idea> when your boss asks you <insert question you will fail to answer correctly>!<\/h3>\n

Think of earth-shattering things to say to your boss NOW.\u00a0 Just make a list.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t matter if said list seems completely irrelevant to your job, just commit them to memory.\u00a0 One watershed moment \u00a0could make you a 28-year old billionaire.<\/p>\n

6.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Don\u2019t ask him\/her out!<\/h3>\n

That relationship is a waste of time! She\u2019s gonna break up with you for a lacrosse player! Focus on your tech-start up instead!<\/p>\n

7.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Invest in <insert incredibly successful company here>!<\/h3>\n

I don\u2019t have any particular advice on this subject.\u00a0 But it seems too obvious to omit.<\/p>\n

8.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diet Coke is definitely not bad for you! It\u2019s fine that you drink eight cans of it a day! In fact, you\u2019re going to live until you\u2019re 120!<\/h3>\n

Take that, naysayers.<\/p>\n
