Workwear Stylin\u2019 101<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re reading this blog, you probably have a job (internships are jobs, let no jerks tell you otherwise).\u00a0 And if you have a job, you probably have some kind of dress code.\u00a0 Most of my peeps workin\u2019 in the Capitol this year have jobs where looking \u201cprofessional\u201d is a big deal. That means suits, ties, pencil skirts (\/shudder), and shoes that wouldn\u2019t confuse your grandma. (“how do you get them\u00a0on<\/em>?)<\/p>\n

Looking sharp is important, but I know some of you might find your style stifled by working the office job Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n

Chin up, soldiers. Here are some quick, easy, and totally work-appropriate ways to electrify your wardrobe.<\/p>\n

FOR MY GENTLEMEN:<\/h3>\n

The Colorful Button-Down shirt<\/h3>\n

Plain white shirts or \u201cI\u2019m the man\u201d pinstripes ain\u2019t doing it in the 21st<\/sup> century, folks.\u00a0 Show off your cool, young-professional style by grabbing a solid color shirt that\u2019s a little off the beaten path.\u00a0 My picks?<\/p>\n

Mauve Mist (real men do wear lavender).<\/p>\n

Steel Grey (with a gray suit, you\u2019re gonna look so sharp).<\/p>\n

Light Grey-Brown (for warmer looks).<\/p>\n

The Pocket Square Just Got Less Square<\/h3>\n

\"Man<\/a><\/p>\n

A pop of color in your suit pocket is an easy way to spice up an otherwise blah suit.\u00a0 But you don\u2019t have to settle for the old fashioned fold.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a link<\/a> to some easy pocket-square designs that\u2019ll give your suit some signature style.<\/p>\n

FOR MY LADIES:<\/h3>\n

Let\u2019s Talk Shoes!<\/h3>\n

Shoes are the obvious vehicle to get you to best-dressed town. \u00a0While your \u201cwowza\u201d heels ain\u2019t gonna cut it in the office, here are some comfortable alternatives that\u2019ll still attract crippling style-envy.<\/p>\n

1.) Kitten Heels – Low to the ground, comfortable, gives you that extra lift if you’re vertically challenged (like myself). \u00a0Pants, skirts, dresses – a low, comfortable heel is a must have.<\/p>\n

2.) Decorative Flats – Make your flats the event of your outfit. \u00a0Bright colors, prints, studs or other bling-ring stuff. \u00a0Don’t let anyone tell you that a flat shoe can’t steal the show.<\/p>\n

3.) \u00a0Oxfords – a personal favorite of mine. \u00a0With or without heels, oxfords are too cool for fall. \u00a0There’s no shoe that makes me feel more “yeah, I got this whole footwear thing figured out”. \u00a0Don’t be afraid to get a pair made for men – you’d be surprised how dude’s shoes can spice up a lady’s outfit.<\/p>\n

Women in\u00a0suits is\u00a0always a class act<\/h3>\n

\nIf Janelle Monae or Diane Keaton are to be believed (or worshipped, obviously), girls rock suits better than dudes anyway.\u00a0 Get yourself a professional looking slim fit suit and watch the compliments at work roll in. \u00a0You\u2019ll look professional, stylish, and like the woman-in-charge that you are.<\/p>\n

Hope these tips help you look forward to breaking out the workwear every Monday. \u00a0I, for one, am rockin’ my electric blue skinny suit this morning.
