So you\u2019ve decided that Grad School is right for you! Fantastic.\u00a0 What isn\u2019t so fantastic? Obviously, the price.\u00a0 If you aren\u2019t the kind of student whose parents can pay for grad school (or will<\/em> pay for grad school), don\u2019t worry \u2013 you\u2019re far from alone.<\/p>\n

Here are 4 strategies you might not have thought of when it comes to financing your next degree:<\/p>\n

\"Paying<\/p>\n

1.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ask for help!<\/h3>\n

The simplest solution goes first.\u00a0 Honestly, very selective grad programs accepted you because they want you there.\u00a0 If whatever they\u2019re offering you in terms of financial aid isn\u2019t enough, sit down with a financial aid counselor and make that clear.\u00a0 If another school offered you more money, maybe you can mention that.\u00a0 An admitted student at Pennsylvania State University reneged on her plan to attend, and the next thing she knew, she was being offered half <\/em>her tuition completely forgiven.\u00a0 Don\u2019t think their first offer is their last offer \u2013 it often isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

2.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Get a Scholarship<\/h3>\n

I know. Easier said than done.\u00a0 But there are TONS of scholarships out there for every field of study, and honestly, the earlier you get started, the better chance you\u2019ll have of getting one.\u00a0 Do an online search for \u201c<Insert Your Subject Here> Graduate Scholarships\u201d. \u00a0You\u2019ll be surprised how many come up.<\/p>\n

3.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Get a Job at the School!<\/h3>\n

Whether you\u2019re a TA, an office employee, or doing research, a side hustle can offset the costs of school, or at least give you some tangible income during your 2-4 years of student-hood.<\/p>\n

4.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Borrow Smart<\/h3>\n

Taking out loans might seem like a worst case scenario, but there\u2019s a smart way to borrow money \u2013 and to pay it back.\u00a0 Tried and true Federal Loans like Stafford, PLUS and Perkins have just changed their interest rate policy as of August 2013, so make sure to do your research.\u00a0 It\u2019s possible (depending on your situation) that a private loan from a bank could come at a lower interest rate.\u00a0\"grant<\/a><\/p>\n
