Navy History & Heritage Command interns generally work in the museum or do historical research and writing. However, openings also exist for collections management, library work, documentary editing, publication editing, photo archival work, graphic design and public relations. Under the supervision of a staff member, the intern develops a project for which he or she is responsible for completing during the internship.<\/p>\n
A sound academic background is essential, although the subject matter is relatively open. The abilities to work both independently and a part of a team are vital. Dedication, punctuality, and a good sense of humor (to cope with ever changing priorities) are essential. Interns are treated as part of the staff, not as exotics.<\/p>\n
