{"id":497587,"date":"2012-11-28T17:01:24","date_gmt":"2012-11-28T17:01:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atdevserver.com\/Projects\/Internsdc\/?p=831"},"modified":"2012-11-28T17:01:24","modified_gmt":"2012-11-28T17:01:24","slug":"institute-for-womens-policy-research-internship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atdevserver.com\/Internsdc\/institute-for-womens-policy-research-internship\/","title":{"rendered":"Institute for Women\u2019s Policy Research Internship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Institute for Women\u2019s Policy Research (IWPR), located in Washington, D.C., conducts rigorous research and disseminates its findings to address the needs of women, promote public dialogue, and strengthen families, communities and societies.<\/p>\n<p>IWPR is committed to assisting the professional development of students and graduates interested in economic justice for women. IWPR&#8217;s internship program is designed to provide participants with challenging work experiences under the guidance and supervision of staff with extensive knowledge of women&#8217;s policy issues, social science research, and non-profit management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring 2013 Internships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Institute will offer internships in three areas for the Spring 2013 semester:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research Internship. <\/strong>Interns will provide administrative and research support to researchers. Duties include: assisting with literature reviews and data collection; designing charts, graphs and tables; answering phones; and filing. Qualifications: Strong organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, interest in policy research and women\u2019s issues; and experience with statistics, economics or social sciences through coursework. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel required; knowledge of STATA, SPSS, SAS, or graphics software a plus. Qualitative research skills also a plus.<\/p>\n<p>Research areas for Spring 2013 include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The quality of women\u2019s jobs, including wages, access to health insurance, paid sick leave, and workplace flexibility.<\/li>\n<li>The work and welfare experiences of low-income women at the state and national levels<\/li>\n<li>Increasing access to higher education and non-traditional jobs for low-income women.<\/li>\n<li>Expanding access to income supports for women such as\u00a0Unemployment Insurance and Family Leave.<\/li>\n<li>Strategies for improving child care access,\u00a0affordability, and quality.<\/li>\n<li>Older women&#8217;s economic issues, including social\u00a0security and pensions.<\/li>\n<li>The economic status of women and girls, women of color,\u00a0and immigrant women across the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Development Internship.<\/strong> Intern will help the development team with direct mail, grant-writing, funder research, and other elements of nonprofit fundraising. IWPR receives support from foundations and government agencies, as well as individual and organizational supporters. Qualifications: Should have an interest in fundraising and nonprofit management; familiarity with Microsoft Excel and prior experience with fundraising at any level is desirable, but not required; basic computer skills required and prior experience working with donor databases preferred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accounting and Human Resources Internship.<\/strong> Interns will provide\u00a0support to the Director of Finance and Human resources. Duties include: expense allocations, accounts payable tasks, data entry; filing; copying; and tracking and organizing financial\u00a0and personnel\u00a0records. \u00a0Qualifications:\u00a0Strong organizational skills; good interpersonal skills; experience with or interest in nonprofit accounting, and office administration through coursework or previous internships.
